Uncle John, we will miss you. You have been a part of our family even before we were born, and our families shared such great times together. You always had the best sense of humour and wit and a brilliant smile. Rest in perfect and eternal peace as you dance with the angels in heaven. We will look after Aunty Josephine, Sheila, Robert and Joy. God bless you Uncle.

John Kamunyori was a trailblazer and torch bearer among the veteran professionals who laid a solid foundation for post independence Kenya. He was among the first cohorts of lawyers who graduated from the new Law faculty of the new University of East Africa, based in Dar ES Salaam. Since then he has served with distinction I both publicly and private sectors. He was a particularly disciplined and amiable gentleman, as I observed of him on the golf course. He inspired many at both national and local community of Embu. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen!

John leaves me with a deep appreciation of the importance of taking things lightly. Every time we met, he found humour in practically every aspect of our conversation, whether individually or in a group. I cannot remember a time we met that I did not tear up from the jokes, witty comment, or observations of Uncle John. I used to own a car whose brand name was KIA, a Korean make. John pointed out that I should be careful how I pronounce that name to a Mkamba. Only John could conjure up such an observation about a car. So every time we met he would bust out on laughter saying " you are still driving that car". And we would then enter into conversation about whatever else we were meeting about in very relaxed mood. Fare thee well John. Heaven must be rejoicing on your arrival.!
